GEOLOGIC STUDIES OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SUBMARINE CANYONS.

Abstract

This report summarizes the data collected to the date of the report on the bathymetry, sediments and structure of the submarine canyons off southern California. Bathymetric maps of all canyons are included as are location maps of samples collected by coring, dredging or surface grabs. Some clay mineral analyses are reviewed as a preliminary report on a larger continuing study. The canyons of the California Borderland may well be much more recent than has previously been supposed. Most probably owe their present expression to middle or late Pleistocene diastrophic activity. (Author)
