ACTIONS OF R(N) ON MANIFOLDS,

Abstract

The author is concerned with actions of R(n) on manifolds and to what extent the topology of the manifold limits the structure of actions. It is proved that the rank of a simply connected n dimensional closed manifold is less than n-1. (Author)
