ORGANIC DEPOLARIZED CELLS UTILIZING META-DINITROBENZENE.

Abstract

A study was made of the techniques which have been utilized in fabricating cylindrical magnesium/magnesium perchlorate/m-dinitrobenzene dry cells on a laboratory scale in order to determine the principal features which require revision in adapting the procedures and construction to the methods of quantity production. As a result of the findings, a twin-shell liquid-solids blender, which in preliminary tests produced in a single operation a wet mix of satisfactory appearance and consistency, is being considered for use in preparing the depolarizer mixes. Comparison between the fold-over and the disk -and-washer separator systems will be made in a statistically designed experiment utilizing A-size cells. The experiment will include also an exploration of the effect of differences in the carbon black, the wetness level, and the gas-permeability of the carbon rod. (Author)
