THE NEWTONIAN DIFFUSE METHOD FOR COMPUTING AERODYNAMIC FORCES

Abstract

An investigation was made of the aerodynamic characteristics of basic shapes in rarified flows. This report contains an analysis of the drag and moment forces on spheres, conical frustums, and cylinders for arbitrary angles of attack. The analysis is based on the assumption of Newtonian flow with diffuse particle reflection. Explicit expressions are derived for quantities of interest.
