THE MANAGEMENT OF PROGRAMMED RESEARCH,

Abstract

Programmed research is research of such magnitude or performed under such contract arrangements that the research staff is obligated to review its plans with another agency, either a separate one, or an agengy of which the research staff is a part. The steps involved in developing a management system for programmed research include the following: (a) establishing explicit goals for the research activity; (b) establishing policies for achieving the goals; (c) providing an organizational structure and staff to conduct the research; (d) scheduling the work and budgeting needed resources, and (e) developing a review procedure by which corporate management can evaluate the effectiveness of the organization in achieving project goals, and the appropriateness of the goals and policies over times.
