STUDY OF TRANSIENT PHENOMENA IN LOW PRESSURE GAS DISCHARGE PLASMAS.

Abstract

The electric field excited in a Maxwellian electron plasma by a pair of closely spaced grids was calculated by three methods, numerical evaluation of the cosine integral expression, summation of the plasma wave functions and the Bohm and Gross wave approach. It is shown that the higher order modes, although damped, are excited sufficiently to be important and account for any difference between the first two methods. (Author)
