THE CREATION OF A CENTER OF OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTRUMENTS IN UNITED STATES (GOZDANIYE TSENTRA OKEANOGRAFICHESKIKH PRILEOROV V SSHA).

Abstract

This center provides for the oceanographers of United States the needed means as well as experts for the construction, testing, comparison and calibration of oceanographic instruments. In order to achieve the goals, the center is equipped with special stands, barocameras, vibrators, thermostats, calibration instruments for reversing thermometers, 18-meter water turret for testing the instruments and a small vessel for field tests in local waters. The new instruments, which are constructed and tested by the center, include electronic bathythermographs, ship-borne wave graphs, the systems of buoys and instruments for measuring the sound speed in water. The Center will also give aid and advice to solving the problems of oceanographic equipment and instruments and will serve as an advisory panel for the collection and presentation of information on all types of oceanographic instruments.
