THE EFFECT OF THE FREE SURFACE ON THE DRAG OF SUPERCAVITATING AXISYMMETRIC BODIES.

Abstract

The drag force on three supercavitating exisymmetric bodies - a disk, a 90-degree cone and a 2:1 ellipsoid truncated at 25 percent of its length - was investigated for varying values of the cavitation coefficient, Froude number, and submergence. The results are compared with existing experimental data for similar bodies deeply submerged and with a theoretical solution for a disk.
