FUELS FOR SMALL ARMS NOISE SIMULATORS. DEVICE 3C65D.

Abstract

Fuels better than acetylene or propane are desired. A survey of available fuels was made. No liquids are well suited. Gasoline, because of its ready availability, is the only liquid worth considering for development. The liquefied petroelum gases are not volatile enough. Gases make better fuels for the simulator because climatic changes effect them less. In simple tests, hydrogen worked with oxygen from a cylinder or with air from a small compressor. Manufactured gases high in hydrogen and carbon monoxide should be suitable. Natural gas is not recommended. The explosion chamber should be elongated and fitted with inserts to shorten the predetonation induction distance. Hydrogen is the recommended fuel. (Author)
