COMMENTS ON TECHNICAL PROGRESS.

Abstract

The article consists of various comments on the classification of disembodied, exogenously given technical progress. The connections among three alternative sets of parametric relationships of technical change are discussed. (Changes in marginal products, changes in input-output coefficients, augmenting coefficients applied to the inputs in a production function). A general concept of 'neutrality' is introduced to point out the symmetry as between the Hicks and Harrod classifications. (J.R. Hicks, 'The Theory of wages. Macmillan and Co., 1932. R. F. Harrod, 'Towards a dynamic economics.' London, 1948). Conditions for preserving 'neutrality' under aggregation are derived. (Author)
