USE OF THE KERR EFFECT FOR STUDYING A STRESSED STATE OF THIN-WALLED STRUCTURES.

Abstract

A procedure and apparatus for studying stresses in thin-walled structures by means of the Kerr effect are described and discussed. The Kerr effect, which is based on the phenomenon of artificial double ray refraction in fluids when an electric field is applied to the fluid, is used in solving multidimensional problems in the theory of elasticity.
