INVESTIGATION OF CHARACTERISTICS OF INFLOW OF AL-ZN ALLOY MATERIAL INTO AN AC ARC DISCHARGE AND CONCENTRATION DEPENDENCE OF THE INTENSITY OF ALUMINIUM AND ZINC LINES,

Abstract

Peculiarities of the entrance of the substance of A1-Zn alloys into the radiating cloud of an ac arc and the concentration dependence of the intensity of the zinc and aluminium lines were investigated. The rate of entry depends on the composition of the alloy. It may be assumed that the character of the concentration dependence of the intensity of the spectral lines of aluminium and zinc significantly depends on the peculiarities of entry of these elements into the discharge arc, the change in temperature of the irradiating cloud and the degree of ionization of the atoms. Without preliminary burning of the electrodes in the range of 20 - 32% zinc in the alloy an anomalous dependence of zinc concentration in the products of entry on the concentration of zinc in the alloy is observed. After preliminary burning for 80 sec the anomalous dependence is eliminated. There was absence of a correspondence between the change in zinc concentration in the entry products for the indicated interval of zinc concentration in the alloy and of the relative intensity of the zinc and aluminium lines. Reasons relative to the cause of this noncorrespondence are pointed out. (Author)
