RECOMBINATION OF A POOL OF DNA FRAGMENTS WITH COMPLEMENTARY SINGLE-CHAIN ENDS.

Abstract

A model for Gentic Recombination in bacteriophage is presented. The DNA molecules in the pool are broken into fragments randomly, enzymes attack the 3'-ends of the fragments, the exposed bases seek complementary sequences on other fragments and new molecules are reassembled. Formulae are given for the ratio of output to input molecules and for the recombination rate and the length of the genetic map. (Author)
