AN/PRC-65 RADIO SET.

Abstract

The task was to design and develop an ultra-miniature, high-reliability radio set, having over 1000 channels operating in the VHF frequency range of 100 to 156mc. This radio set is to operate from a single crystal source, transmit in the given frequency range in 50kc steps, and have the capability of changing frequencies by means of a single digital switch. The radio set uses many new innovations and techniques, some of which are: a broadband transceiver which is untuned except for a bandpass filter; a digital frequency synthesizer to obtain the large number of channels from a single frequency source; and integrated and thin-film circuits for obtaining high packaging volume and high reliability. Extensive development work was expended on designing the broadband RF power amplifier and its associated modulator. These circuits have proven to be very successful and can be adapted for extension in the UHF frequency range of 225 to 400 mc. (Author)
