ATOMIC CASCADE MODELS.

Abstract

A model for cascades of atomic displacements was developed which is basically the same as earlier models but more general in its treatment of replacement collisions and energy lost to other lattice atoms when an atom is displaced. Simple analytical expressions were obtained for the average number of displacements produced per primary which are sufficiently accurate considering the uncertainties in the basic assumptions. Various specific cases of the model are illustrated numerically and discussed briefly relative to the possibility of using electron irradiation data to determine some of the parameters in the model.
