INCIDENCE MATRIX APPLICATIONS.

Abstract

This report is in two parts. The first part deals with certain finite configurations which have been applied in the design and analysis of statistical experiments. Some of their mathematical properties are examined, certain ones are described in detail and some new results, particularly on generalizations employing roots of 1 other than plus or minus 1 are reported. The applications of these configurations to the construction of various codes are discussed. The second part is a study of a hypothetical self-synchronizing coding system based on codes derivable from some of the configurations described in the first part. (Author)
