EXPERIMENTS ON ION-ACOUSTIC WAVES.

Abstract

Propagation of ion-acoustic waves was observed in the positive column of a low pressure mercury discharge. Both self-excited and externally excited waves were shown to exist in the frequency range 50 - 120 kHz. The waves were approximately unattenuated. The experimental dispersion relation is compared with theory. (Author)
