STUDY OF DISTORTION IN KLYSTRONS AND TRAVELING-WAVE TUBES.
Abstract
This report describes the work accomplished during the eight quarter of this study of distortion in klystrons and traveling-wave tubes. In addition, it contains a detailed summary of the significant findings of the study over its completed span. Experimental results are presented indicating that no significant variation in distortion under two-tone saturated drive is found over an extremely wide selection of operating parameters in conventional traveling-wave tubes. A severed helix tube design, however, did show significant performance improvement in regard to distortion suppression. Possible future avenues of approach to the distortion problem in the light of these findings are discussed. (Author)
