NUMERICAL STUDIES IN GAS DYNAMICS.

Abstract

The report describes the work that has been carried out on the following topics:-(a) The application of a Monte Carlo simulation technique to additional problems in rarefied gas dynamics. In particular, an unfinished study of the breakdown of continum flow in steady expansions. (b) The numerical simulation of the motion of a test particle in an ionized gas. (c) An exact analytical solution for the compression of a highly rarefied plasma between converging magnetic mirrors. (d) The preliminary study of the theoretical performance of a multi-stage hypervelocity launcher. (Author)
