THEORETICAL GROUND SHOCK EFFECTS. VOLUME I. GROUND MOTION IN ELASTIC HALF-SPACES INDUCED BY AIR BLAST.
Abstract
The problem of the ground response to the air blast loading caused by a surface nuclear burst in the elastic region was treated using a ground model of elastic half space both layered and non layered. The air blast loading was approximated by a source of acoustic waves in an overlying fluid. The emphasis is directed toward the investigation of surface wave effects. The report includes discussion of the response in terms of velocities and stresses at various points in the media. The data are presented in graphical form and the necessary derivations are given. In addition the nature of the Rayleigh wave is discussed and a simple damping constant for the Rayleigh response is shown to exist naturally in the solutions. (Author)
