GRAFTED COPOLYMERS OF CELLULOSE WITH CERTAIN VINYL MONOMERS,

Abstract

Grafted copolymers of cellulose with methylacrylate, methylmethacrylate, and vinylacetate were obtained under the action of gamma rays. The nature of the polymer and its solvent has an influence on the formation of grafted copolymers of cellulose with different monomers. The grafting to cellulose of the indicated monomers does not bring about a notable change in the tensile strength of the fiber, but leads to a lessening of the hydrophily of the grafted copolymers.
