WATER PROBLEMS OF THE MIDDLE EAST

Abstract

The water resources of the Middle East (including specifically the United Arab Republic, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia) and the management, development, and utilization of the water resources are discussed in this report. Also considered is the adverse effect of shortages of trained personnel and of illiteracy on the effectiveness of the existing water- resources programs. Establishment of a Middle East Water Institute is recommended.
