THE EFFECT OF BREATHING 15%, 21%, AND 100% OXYGEN ON THE SHIVERING RESPONSE OF NUDE HUMAN SUBJECTS AT 10 DEGREES C1,

Abstract

The experiments show that there is a very large subject-to-subject variation in the time until onset of shivering and the time until development of severe continuous shivering. These times are increased by increasing the percentage of oxygen in the inspired gas mixture. The mechanism of the effect of oxygen on the shivering response requires further clarification. (Author)
