DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF SHELLS UNDER THERMAL STRESS.

Abstract

The effect of initial stress and in particular of thermal stress on the dynamical behavior of thin shells (vibration and propagation of bending waves) is studied. The case of a circular cylindrical is considered in detail, and several effects of initial stress and distributed moment evaluated. Methods of determining initial thermal stress and deflection are given and their effects on natural frequencies and modes considered. Local effects on the velocity of propagation of bending waves are studied in detail and quantitative evaluations are obtained. Comparison with experimental results is given. (Author)
