ANALYSIS OF PETROLEUM SOLVENTS BY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY. PART II. DETERMINATION OF AROMATIC SOLVENTS IN PETROLEUM PAINT THINNERS.

Abstract

The solvency characteristics of petroleum thinners for alkyd resins can be related to the amount of aromatic hydrocarbons present. Many other synthetic resins require thinners of high aromatic content and there is a need for a rapid, accurate analytical method that can be used for quality control. The report describes a procedure for the determination of aromatic solvents in petroleum thinners by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) using a highly selective partitioning liquid. (Author)
