HEAT TRANSFER IN THE CASE OF TURBULENT MOTION OF A FLUID IN AN ANNULAR DUCT,

Abstract

The applicability of formulas for the calculation of heat transfer in circular ducts to non-circular ducts is discussed. The resultant deviation of the heat transfer coefficient, in some instances considerable, are probably due to the effect of the diameter ratio, which takes the variations of temperature and velocity fields in annular ducts into account. To clarify this problem, the average heat transfer in a smooth straight annular duct was investigated for a water flow with water as the secondary heat transfer medium. The results showed that the accuracy of calculations can be improved considerably by applying a correction factor. (Author)
