SPACE PROJECTS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.

Abstract

Throughout the last decade the United Kingdom has maintained an active programme of sounding rocket and ballistic missile development, from which the current space activities have emerged; the former weapon Blue Streak has become the first stage of the ELDO satellite launcher, Black Knight is being considered as the basis for a national launcher (Black Arrow), and Skylark is now used exclusively for space research. The paper describes these projects, as well as the U.K.3 and Black Arrow satellites, and concludes with a brief mention of related ground facilities. (Author)
