AXISYMMETRIC BUCKLING OF ORTHOTROPIC CIRCULAR PLATES WITH VARIABLE THICKNESS.

Abstract

This report is concerned with the axisymmetric buckling of an orthotropic circular plate having variable thickness. The thickness varies in the radial direction and the plate is subjected to a uniform edge compression. The governing equation for the stress distribution due tois edge compression is derived and solved in terms of a power series in the radial coordinate. With the use of this stress distribution, the equation governing the buckling of the plate is derived. It is solved by Galerkin's method for a clamped plate as well as for a simply-supported plate. Values of the buckling loads thus obtained for a uniform thickness plate agree well with existing results. (Author)
