HEAT LOSS OF HOT-WIRES IN SUPERSONIC FLOW

Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to determine the heat loss from hot-wires in supersonic flow in order to provide a basis for determination of the fluctuation sensitivity of the wires for turbulence measurements. The conclusion of the investigations on the fluctuation sensitivity is that the wire is sensitive to stagnation temperature fluctuations and mass flow fluctuations in varying degrees, depending on the wire operating temperature. This means that by varying the wire operating temperature the two kind of fluctuations can be separated. This fact gave impetus to the determination of nonlinear effects at high temperature loading.
