ACOUSTIC AMPLIFICATION - A DISCUSSION OF APPLICATIONS.

Abstract

Based on the present theoretical and experimental knowledge of the piezoelectric ultrasonic amplifier, various applications are considered. Properties which are of importance for design of practical devices are discussed, and fundamental limitations are pointed out. Paramount among these are the high power consumption and low efficiency. Due to the inherent acoustic nature of the amplifier, ultrasonic devices such as active transducers and delay lines seem more promising than amplifiers for electric signals. A few unconventional designs are proposed. (Author)
