ENERGY AND ANGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF GAMMA RAYS SCATTERED IN ALUMINUM,

Abstract

The energy and angular distribution of plane perpendicular Cs137 gamma rays scattered in 1 through 5 mean free paths of aluminum was measured using a NaI(Tl) spectrometer. The results are compared with distributions calculated from the method of moments and polynominal expansion. For 1 and 2 mean free paths the infinite-medium calculations for multiple scatter are considerably in excess of the experimental results at the distribution peak; otherwise, the spectrum shape is reproduced satisfactorily. For 3, 4, and 5 mean free paths the calculations are in good agreement with experiment. (Author)
