SECOND ORDER MOMENTS IN RADIATIVE SYSTEMS.

Abstract

The radiabive system (the source and its radiation field) is described as a continuous parameter stochastic process. A mathematical model is introduced which avoids a number of difficulties encountered in existing formulations of second order coherence theory. Equations obeyed by the coherence tensors in the radiation field are obtained in a simplified manner and general solutions to the tensor equations are found. Special cases and approximate forms (analogous to the Fresnel and Fraunhofer approximations) of the general solutions are presented. (Author)
