DETERMINATION OF PROPAGATION OF SHORT-WAVE SIGNALS BY THE CHARACTERISTIC DISTORTIONS AT THE POINT OF RECEPTION.

Abstract

The possibility of determining the propagation time of shortwave station signals by means of characteristic distortions at the reception point is considered. The distortions are due to the summation of signals, which travelled paths of different length, at the reception point. The comparison of the method of determination of propagation time from measurements of the propagation time differences of separate signals with that of two-sided measurements showed satisfactory agreement. In order to facilitate such measurements it is proposed that short (0.1-0.2 msec) impulses be included in the signal transmission program. It is shown that Stoyko's empirical formulas for the computation of propagation time give too high values if the signals are registered by the oscillographic method. (Author)
