CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF 16% CHROMIUM - 1% NICKEL DESUPERHEATER ALLOY WHEN EXPOSED TO CHEMICAL DESCALANTS.

Abstract

An investigation was made to develop a suitable descalant formulation to permit chemical cleaning of 16% Chromium - 1% Nickel (16-1 Croloy) desuperheaters, without deleterious effects. Based on bench studies, these elements can be descaled safely with the Boiler Scale Removing Compound (sulfamic acid, citric acid, diethylthiourea) containing an inhibitor supplement. In addition, this formulation may be used to descale boilers with the 16-1 Croloy desuperheaters intact. A full scale boiler cleaning operation should be initiated to confirm the successful bench scale findings. (Author)
