STUDIES OF THE ATMOSPHERIC GENERAL CIRCULATION, V.

Abstract

The significant results are presented in the form of reprints of scientific articles written by project members during the contract period. The first general aim of the work has been to describe the mode of operation of the earth's planetary atmosphere in regard to the main variables involved, such as wind, temperature, etc. through the study of extensive observational material in the light of the fundamental conservation equations, of fluid mechanics, and of thermodynamics. Efforts were also made to discuss these results through deductive theoretical studies. Finally, several studies were undertaken to explore other cosmic fluid systems through the application of experience gained in studying the earth's atmosphere. (Author)
