ON THE THERMODYNAMICS OF ELASTIC MATERIALS.

Abstract

In a previous paper (Arch. Rational Mech. Anal. v19, p339, 1965) it was shown that in the absence of couple stresses and multipolar effects the Clausius-Duhem inequality requires that eve1y elastic material be simple; i.e. that the stress, energy and entropy depend at most on the deformation gradient and temperature at the same point. It is the purpose of this paper to show that the theorem can be established in a more direct manner provided local behavior is assumed from the outset. (Author)
