A WORKING MANUAL FOR SPARK SHADOWGRAPH PHOTOGRAPHY.

Abstract

The manual explains in detail some specific procedures for making satisfactory spark shadowgraphs of density variation phenomena in an air stream moving at transonic or supersonic velocity. The information permits each such system to be designed as a tool, including the choice, size and placement of its components without the necessity of building preliminary equipment to establish the practicability of a given arrangement. Because this system is, at present, the only known mebhod of making short exposure shadowgraphs of gas density phenomena under usual wind tunnel conditions, offering both photographic effectiveness and short duration as compared with other light sources, its choice for use in shadowgraph systems becomes almost mandatory.
