SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF ALKAROMATIC CHLOROCARBONS.

Abstract

Progress in the alkaromatic chlorocarbons is summarized, including informational exchanges, papers presented and published, and patent history. Recent data obtained from the synthesis and reactivity studies on the new class of inert perchlorocarbon free radicals are described. These include results obtained with perchlorodiphenylmethyl, perchlorotriphenylmethyl, perchloro-4-phenyldiphenylmethyl, perchloro-4-phenyltriphenlmethyl, perchloro-alpha, alpha, alpha, alpha,-tetraphenylbi-p-tolyl-alpha, alpha-ylene diradical, alpha-H, alpha-H, alpha-H-tetradecachloro-4-methyltriphenylmethyl radicals and related compounds. These radicals are chemically inert to oxygen and halogens, due principally to steric hindrance, but give sharp electron spin resonance lines. (Author)
