THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF VITREOUS SILICA: SELECTED VALUES

Abstract

The published literature on the thermal conductivity of vitreous silica has been assembled and the results critically evaluated. Best values of thermal conductivity as a function of temperature have been selected. These are presented in both graphical and tabular form. They cover the range 80 to 660K and published data extending from 3 to 2100K are shown in the graphs. An attempt was made to consult all work that could significantly affect the choice of best values. Published papers were located with the aid of Chemical Abstracts, Physics Abstracts, the Thermophysical Properties Retrieval Guide, and some other general sources. In addition, relevant references in the papers themselves were followed up until a substantially 'closed system' had been generated, as shown by the fact that no new references were being turned up.
