UNBALANCE VIBRATION AND FORCE RATIOS OF ROTOR-BEARING SYSTEMS.

Abstract

An important component of machinery noise is that caused by unbalance force of the rotating element. In addition to direct control at the source by precision balancing, it is important to provide for minimum response and force transmission of the rotor-bearing system. The results of an analysis of a representative system are given in nondimensional graphs for design estimates. These show that the response and force transmission mainly depend on the proximity of the operating speeds to critical speeds of the system. At or near the critical speeds the damping in the bearings have primary effect. Within the complex of practical design and operating requirements, significant magnification of unbalance force at the bearings probably can be avoided. In special cases some reduction in force transmission may be possible. (Author)
