MULTICHANNEL Z-TRANSFORMS AND MINIMUM-DELAY.
Abstract
The concept of minimum-delay (i.e. minimum-phase) is an important link in tying together the deterministic approach and the statistical approach to seismology. By the use of multichannel z-transforms we have shown how this concept can be extended to the multichannel case. With this approach the theory of multichannel filters can be built up in an analogous manner to single-channel theory. In particular the method of multichannel predictive deconvolution can be applied to multi-trace seismograms for the elimination of reverberations. Because multichannel filters are able to exploit the correlations existing from trace to trace and record to record we can expect better results in many applications where single-channel digital filters are now being used to process seismic data. Much work remains to be done; however the promise of multichannel data processing is bright. (Author)
