ION-EXCHANGE MEMBRANES: COMPILATION OF ABSTRACTS.

Abstract

The abstracts are arranged according to the institution under whose auspices the work was conducted. Following the Introduction the report is divided into six sections: I. Leningrad State University (16 entries); II. Belorussian State University (Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry) (8 entries); III. Institute of Physical Chemistry (4 entries); IV. Institute of High-Molecular Compounds (3 entries); V. Institute of Electrochemistry (2 entries); VI. Other Institutions (10 entries); VII. Patents (3 entries). Work on ion exchange membranes is being conducted primarily at five centers--those listed above. Other institutions are doing some work in this field, and occasional patents deal with devices and methods used in ion exchange membranes. Owing to the paucity of information on ion exchange membranes in fuel cell applications, it was necessary to make the selection of articles for this report on a more general basis. It is noted that Soviet planners have assigned a rather high priority to fuel cell technology and goes on to discuss progress made on fuel cell technology and related subjects in the past 3-4 years. Confirmation that restrictions might have been imposed on the publication of certain types of information concerning fuel cells and related fields is pointed out on the basis of remarks in a review article by a Soviet author and also the scanty number of articles on the subject of fuel cells in a new monthly 'Elektrokhimiya'.
