FACTORS INFLUENCING FIBRINOLYSIS.
Abstract
Special circumstances which may influence the urokinase determination in practise were examined. Normal and abnormal urokinase excretion were clearly defined. It seems to be that under circumstances of normal life, the urokinase excretion is constant every 24 hours. It is a personal characteristic and even through the year the excretion is astoundingly constant. The normal excretion in the female is somewhat lower than in the male. There is no 'day-night' rhythm for urokinase excretion. After periods of high blood fibrinolytic activity there is no increase of the urokinase excretion. It does not matter whether this increased activity is obtained by muscular exercise or by drug injection. It is concluded, therefore, that urokinase is not an excreted blood activator. There is a rough correlation between urokinase excretion and glomerular function measured as creatinine clearance. The antibodies which we developed against urokinase of different species are species specific. In the Ouchterlony technique it appears that this antiserum contains at least 3 precipitating antibodies against components of the injected urokinase preparation. In experiments with animals, injected intravenously with a high dosis of anti-urokinase, no special pathology developed and the urokinase excretion did not significantly decrease. (Author)
