PRODUCTION ENGINEERING MEASURE FOR IMPROVED RELIABILITY OF HERMETICALLY SEALED TANTALUM FOIL CAPACITORS.

Abstract

The accomplishments during the period were the continued evaluation of the special capacitors in product improvement evaluation program. The units completed 2,000 hours on the 125C operating life test without a catastrophic failure. Some of the units made with the various design and process modifications started to show a difference in parameters relative to the reference measurements. Efforst were continued to improve the overall quality of the unit and to reduce in-process losses and potential capacitor failures. The results of the final seal test program indicated that the weight loss method of leak detection to be the most sensitive of the three methods as applied to hermetically sealed tantalum foil capacitors. The drawing lists were revised to incorporate the final design selected for the units in the production run. The fabrication of the 9,150 test units was started during this quarter. (Author)
