Abstract

Measurement of the speed of gas in an inflammable medium a method of measuring the flow velocity of a gas in an inflammable medium is described. The speed of the gas is measured in terms of the shift of a thermal heterogeneity created in the motionless medium by the heating of a small volume of gas by a thin Nichrome wire, connected to the discharge circuit of a condenser. Examples are given of the use of the method for measuring the speed of gas ahead of a flame front and behind incident and reflected shock waves. Application of the zonal method of calculation to asymmetric problems of thermal conduction a solution is proposed for the calculation by the zonal method of the asymmetric heating of an infinite (unbounded) plate under the action radiation.
