THE RELATION BETWEEN DIRECTOR AND MULTIPOLAR THEORIES IN CONTINUUM MECHANICS.
Abstract
The thermodynamical theory of any number of directors for a continuum with a reference state is re-examined. One form of multipolar displacement theory is shown to be equivalent to a theory of directors. A theory of multiple displacements is considered and is shown to be equivalent to a theory of directors with a constraint. (Author)
