A STUDY OF HAZARDS IN TERNARY SWITCHING CIRCUITS.

Abstract

Ternary combinational switching networks consisting of elements which are similar to familiar binary switching elements are studied by means of a ternary switching albegra. Simplification procedures using map methods are presented. Static and dynamic hazards, and methods to eliminate them, are investigated. It is found that some ternary switching functions have unavoidable dynamic hazards. However, the class of ternary switching functions for which all hazards can be eliminated is larger than the class of corresponding functions in the binary case. The hazard elimination method presented is based on the use of maps. (Author)
