A Study of Ocean Variability at a Depth of One Mile,

Abstract

Several of the statistical characteristics of time-varying oceanographic parameters at a site one mile deep on the side of Plantagenet Bank, Bermuda, are discussed. This material summarizes and analyzes several sets of temperature, current speed, sound speed, and other data taken during July 1963 - July 1964 period. The auto- and cross-correlative properties of the data fields are discussed; also, evidence for the presence of energy at various periods in spectra is presented. The existence of internal tides is demonstrated. (Author)
