METALLURGY OF ALUMINUM INGOTS FOR HYPERVELOCITY IMPACT TARGETS.

Abstract

The information presented in this report should be considered part of the report entitled, 'Hypervelocity Impact Studies', Technical Report No. ML-TR-66-40. These data are believed to be important in the progress and continuous evaluation of the hypervelocity impact program conducted by the Materials Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The materials is presented in five parts. The first part involves the tabulation of all the raw data from the tensile tests. The second involves photographs of the tensile specimens. The third involves photographs of the alloy grain sizes. The fourth contains a tabulation of the derived data. The fifth part involves the analysis, interpretation and discussion of the results of the tensile tests, including the effects of testing temperature, the importance of strain hardening, and the significance of the energy per unit volume.
