A LIGHTWEIGHT, FOUR-CHANNEL, AIRCRAFT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM USING CHANGEOVER CONTACTORS.

Abstract

It was shown that a simple and reliable aircraft electrical system, having very brief periods of disturbance under fault conditions, can be provided with two generating channels and normally closed changeover contactors. A four-channel system may comprise two such sub-systems and, if the maximum load may be divided into six equal parts, the total generating capacity may be reduced to four thirds of the maximum load by using two auxiliary busbars transferable between the sub-systems. There is no loss of load with one generator failure. Such a system was set up and demonstrated in the laboratory. (Author)
